The Castles, Cathedrals & Dales of Durham tour  really is the best way to see what our beautiful county has to offer.

On this premium tour we cover in the region of 100 miles over apx 4 hours.
We will take a couple of short stops for tea, coffee or hot chocolate which we provide for free in the winter months, and you will have plenty of opportunities to take pictures along the way or if you like we can do that for you.

Our journey starts at Durham city railway station where we will collect you on our fantastic 3 seater trike
.
Once on board after you've been kitted out with helmets , jackets & gloves we head off out of Durham city past Nevilles Cross, site of the famous battle with the Scots.
Another 10 minutes up the road and we come to the imposing Brancpeth Castle.

From here we  head up towards  Auckland Castle past Binchester Roman Fort which lies on Dere street.
Auckland Castle was the residence of the Prince Bishops and is the current residence of the Bishop of  Durham.
A few pictures maybe and the we ride up to Escomb Church, the oldest church in England and the favourite of the Arch Bishop himself.


Now we start to cruise up towards Teesdale taking in  panoramic veiws of the open countryside until we come to the mighty Raby Castle.
Home the the Neville family famous for the Northern uprising and once the home site of King Cnut (
Canute), this must be one of the finest Castles in the UK.

Then up to Barnard Castle, once home to the John Balliol, King of Scotland before Robert the Bruce reigned. Bowes museum is here too, it is a grand French styled building which houses a fine collection of antiquities and is owned by the Bowes Lyon family ( Queen mother).

Past the ruinous Egglestone Abbey and then buildings which were once occupied by Oliver Cromwell and Charles Dickens respectivley we follow the river up into Teesdale.
Passing through the beautiful villages we come to Romaldkirk , and the Cathedral of the Dales.

From here in miles of meandering roads through exquisit countryside until we get to Middleton-in-Teesdale, a beautiful ancient Market town.
Now its over the moors riding through a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty till we get to Stanhope , capital of Weardale, past the 12th century hunting lodge of the Prince Bishops where they would banquet after hunting the 30,000 acre estate.


Now we take a slow ride, cruising along following the River Wear through Weardale, through the picturesque  villages and hills heading towards Durham City.

Once back in the City we take the scenic route over Elvet bridge and through the historic market place up to the truely magnificent Cathederal and Castle, where we depart company, leaving you with the time to explore the Historic city of Durham.

This is a beautiful tour packed with spectacular heritage and peaceful open country roads.
